President's Message

Welcome to the CBUFA website. The online home for the Cape Breton University Faculty Association (CBUFA). Whether you are a long time member or a new member, you are encouraged to visit our website regularly and to check out our other online forums. 

 I have been a member of the CBU community since 1996. My own involvement with the faculty association goes back more than ten years. I first represented the union as its representative on the University Joint Occupational Health and Safety committee. My involvement in collective bargaining began in 2006 with writing collective agreement proposals for the 2006 bargaining team and ultimately served on bargaining teams during 2009, 2013 and 2016 negotiations. I have served on the CBUFA executive as treasurer, Vice-President and now as your President. I an honored to represent and protect the interests of the members of this association as CBUFA President. This union is of course not one person. Members are also represented by an executive with individuals that carry out the various functions on behalf of the membership that include governance, association finances, grievance, contract negotiation, equity and communications to name a few.  

A major goal for CBUFA is to safe-guard the working environment of our members, promote equity and fairness and to be a resource to address questions and concerns for our members. This is achieved by updating the membership on current issues and soliciting input through public meetings, forums, one-on-one conversations and electronically. The faculty association is only as strong as the membership. You have a voice and we want to hear it. By being united, standing up and speaking out together is where our strength lies. Membership engagement is critical to our success.
